A Better Choice

“A Better Choice” classes help participants learn how to define domestic abuse, identify its various forms (e.g., physical, psychological, sexual, and economic abuse), understand how it affects adult and child witnesses and survivors, recognize that violence is a choice, and identify respectful ways of communicating.

The eight-week class series includes a $60 assessment fee, a $20 orientation fee, and $200 due at registration. Individuals requesting a 26-week class series will be eligible for participation after completing the initial eight-week class series for $25 per class, due 24 hours before each class. 1:1 classes are offered at an increased cost of $400 for the eight-class series and $50 for each additional class.

Active Parenting for Stepfamilies

Active Parenting for Stepfamilies is a six-class series Parenting Education course. This course is designed for stepparents wanting to be involved role models in their stepchildren’s lives while also building relationships and respecting the boundaries already in place within the family unit. It is recommended that both parents attend but is not required. Fee of $35 due upon registration.

These Community Education classes are funded by a PACT United Grant from United Way of Acadiana.

Anger Choices

“Anger Choices” classes utilize psychoeducation and coping skill training to assist participants in developing healthy strategies for managing and expressing anger. In these sessions, the participant will explore the roots of anger and how to choose reactions that are less harmful to oneself and others through—a six-week class series, with $150 due at registration, or a 1 day intensive class, with $200 due at registration. Additionally, 1:1 classes are available upon request, with $300 due at registration.

Preteen Anger Choices

“Preteen Anger Choices” is a three-class series Anger Management Course designed to teach mindfulness and emotional regulation through Compassion-Based Therapy. The class will instruct individuals on managing anger in a productive manner to make sound choices while experiencing the emotion of anger. The course is suggested for participants between the ages of 10 and 12 years. A fee of $20 is due upon registration.

Best Moms

This 6-week course will explore topics such as child growth, parent/child communication skills, positive discipline, helping children develop positive self-esteem, and dealing with stress. Cost: Fee of $35 due upon registration.

Best Dads

This 6-week course will explore topics such as discipline and creative play, fathering sons and daughters, teamwork with spouse and co-parent, communication and problem-solving, and balancing work and fathering. Cost: Fee of $35 due upon registration.

Branching Out

Branching Out is a support group for moms that offers empowerment, support and therapeutic guidance in a peaceful setting. Branching Out works to nurture connections through moms and their children, one branch at a time. Child care is provided. Groups in Lafayette and Acadia Parishes. Cost: FREE

Postpartum Support Group

This is a support group for Healthy Start moms who have welcomed a new child within the last 4 months. This group is for you if you are dealing with the stress of adjusting to a new baby, experiencing the Baby Blues or wondering if you have postpartum depression or anxiety. This group invites you to connect with other new moms, talk about your experience with a new baby and learn about helpful tools and resources. Groups are offered online. Cost: FREE

Partners in Parenting

Partners in Parenting (formally known as Transparenting) is a one-time, 4-hour parent seminar designed to teach effective parenting during divorce or parental separation transitions. The course addresses children’s developmental and emotional needs and emphasizes each parent’s responsibility to provide a nurturing and non-threatening environment for the child. Topics include: talking to your children about divorce, emotional reactions, guidelines for helping children adjust, new family structures, types of parenting relationships, establishing a co-parenting relationship, the effect of violence on children, changes in your economic and living situation, and involvement in the legal system. This is an educational program and not a counseling session. Parents will not be expected to discuss personal problems. Children do NOT attend. The fee is $150 for a one-time class.

Scheduling Policy


We understand that situations arise that could force you to reschedule or cancel a class.

For TransParenting Classes: You are allowed to reschedule a class once. A $10 processing fee will be charged for all transfer requests and cancellations prior to the registered class date. If attendance is not fulfilled after the first rescheduling, you will forfeit your spot in the class as well as your payment for the class. Clients who “no show” will forfeit the $75 class fee.

Certificate reprint: A $10 processing fee will be charged to reprint a certificate for verification of attendance.
