Mission:
To improve the quality of life for individuals and families through education, counseling and information services that are delivered in a professional, accessible, and compassionate manner.
History:
The seed of The Family Tree was planted in 1979 for a nonprofit agency to help parents create stronger families. The Junior League of Lafayette initiated research and funding to begin the agency located on Ambassador Caffery Parkway.
In the late 1980s, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center invited The Family Tree to be a part of its campus. The Family Tree is now located on the campus of Women’s and Children’s Hospital to meet the needs of children and families of Acadiana.
The most significant addition in the 1990s was the Counseling Center. Since 1991 we have provided professional counseling that is affordable and accessible to individuals and families of Acadiana.
We now offer additional programs that offer specialized services to specific groups of people and we continue to provide hope and guidance to families. Our newest program, Healthy Start, recently celebrated its second year of service to pregnant woman and their babies. Ways to Work has also achieved extraordinary success in helping families purchase cars in the last three years. In the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, we expanded several of our programs to meet the specific needs of displaced families. Our staff has grown to 21 individuals devoted to finding innovative ways to serve the community. The Family Tree is proud to be a United Way Partner Agency.
